All proteins are homologues of the components of the L-complex (core uridine
insertion/deletion RNA editing particle) isolated from mitochondria of L. tarentolae.
Proteins are labeled Lm (for L. major) LC (for L-complex or RNA ligase-containing
complex isolated via TAP-tagged RNA ligase). The numbers represent gel bands, from
top to bottom, sequenced by mass spectroscopy. Those bands labeled a, b…had more
than one protein per band. The corresponding T. brucei homologs of four of these
proteins, LmLC 1, 4, 7a and 11, are from Panigrahi,A.K., Schnaufer,A., Carmean,N.,

1. The most likely N-terminus is provided at the 5’ end. This ORF can be extended
upstream but this would remove the putative mitochondrial importation sequence. In
addition, an upstream “CACACACACACACACACACACACACACACACA”
sequence is often found in 5’ UTRs and points to this methionine as the correct initiation
codon.
2. Protein is a homolog of TbMP81 from T. brucei.

Assembled from short overlapping sequences -CHR36.635 in GeneDB. The C-terminal
sequence encoding 63 amino acids was obtained from short overlapping sequences that
do not appear to be in the database any longer. We have sequenced the L. tarentolae gene
and the C-terminus in this protein was fairly identical to that in L. major.
